Sisterhood Initiative marks our fifth year anniversary with the launch of our first ever Write for Justice zine!
The aftermath of Sri Lanka’s economic crisis instilled a deep sense of fatigue amongst young activists and writers to engage in social issues. It felt imperative to have young people inspired and support young writers. In 2023, we introduced the Write for Justice project to train young female writers to learn and write about social justice issues, particularly amongst minority communities across Sri Lanka. The project, aimed towards training and giving exposure to young writers, emphasized the need for citizen journalism and the importance of youth mobilizing.
Our team of writers have worked diligently on their own pieces, centering regional and world issues, engaging deeply into the different histories of conflict, racism, gender inequality and discriminatory laws – reflecting the injustices around them and their own communities.
The views expressed in this zine are those of the authors and do not necessarily reflect the views of Sisterhood Initiative as an organization. The articles were written, submitted and edited between October 2023 and June 2024. Click on the cover to read our zine!
